Two of the first things people notice when they meet you are your skin and your teeth. Both are great mirrors into one's health and personal hygiene. (Keep those dental check-ups regularly scheduled.) Personally, the dry, winter season was especially rough on my skin and complexion. Although, I cleanse, exfoliate and use sunscreen religiously, my skin has been feeling pretty gross lately. A quick glance in the mirror revealed blotchiness, discoloration, and areas of serious hyperpigmentation. I knew I wanted to do something a little heavier than exfoliating.
On Sundays, I usually focus on doing something for myself to prepare mentally and emotionally for the week ahead; that is how I #SelfcareSunday. Whether it's reading a book, washing my car or getting my eyebrows threaded, I make sure to carve some time out on Sunday to take care of myself.
Over the course of the next few months, I have a few engagements and meetings coming up. This was my queue to get my eyebrows together. I have been getting my eyebrows threaded for about 5 years now, and the results typically last me 3-4 weeks. I used to visit the eyebrow threading shop in the Green Hills Mall, but with my work hours and the heavy traffic, the fight and stress to get there was no longer worth it. I decided to seek other options that were closer to home. This is where the beauty of social media comes in. I happened upon Vine Eyebrow Threading and thread speacialist, Warvin, aka, Vin, while searching Instagram hashtags. In doing this, I was able to see pictures and videos of Vin's work and was impressed. Since discovering Vin and her shop, I have visited several times to get my eyebrows threaded and tinted. Vin is always gracious, fast and friendly. However, today I decided to try a dermaplane treatment, which was recently added to the menu of services. Vin was able to fit me in and do both the dermaplane and eyebrow threading. Eyebrow threading was $10, the dermaplane was $75.
What is dermaplaning? Dermaplaning is a quick, effective procedure that normally takes 45 minutes to complete. It is a physical exfoliation procedure that requires the use of a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently "shave" the skin's surface, removing the top-most layer of dead skin along with fine, vellus hair (aka peach fuzz). It is recommended that patients space treatments approximately two to four weeks apart for the best results. Normally, there is absolutely no recovery or down time with this treatment. Afterwards, patients typically experience a glow (see my before and after pictures below), better absorption of products, and the lightening of blemishes over time.
I experienced no pain or discomfort and was excited to have glowy skin again! I will be seeing Vin again next month
